About Rusalka

Rusalka (The Mermaid) is a unique, tranquil seaside resort located on the northern Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, nestled within the Tauk Liman Nature Reserve. It is known for its all-inclusive holiday village setup, featuring 600 small, white bungalows (villas). The resort is ideal for families, sports enthusiasts (especially tennis fans), and nature lovers who appreciate the combination of clear turquoise waters, private sandy coves, dramatic sea cliffs, and surrounding oak forests.

What to Expect

The resort is centered around several small, sheltered private beaches with fine to medium sand, making the water calm and excellent for swimming and water sports like snorkeling and diving. Guests can expect an all-inclusive experience that includes a wide array of sports facilities: 15+ tennis courts (clay and hard), mini-football, volleyball, and archery. There is also an open-air mineral-water swimming pool and a private port for small boats. Beach amenities, including sun loungers and sunshades, are typically provided free of charge to resort guests. Water temperatures are warm in summer, ranging from 22-25°C (72-77°F).

Getting There & Practical Information

Rusalka is located in Dobrich Province, approximately 90 km northeast of Varna (VAR) and 23 km from Shabla. Its secluded location requires travel by car or organized transfer. The resort is close to the town of Kamen Bryag. Accommodation is primarily in the all-inclusive villas. Bulgaria uses the Bulgarian Lev (BGN), approximately 2 BGN = 1 EUR. English and German are commonly spoken in the resort area.

Nearby Attractions

The area is rich in natural and historical sites. Visitors should explore the nearby Yaylata Archaeological and Nature Reserve, famous for its rock tombs and caves, and the magnificent Cape Kaliakra, a high cliff cape that is home to a historical fortress and is a favored spot for bird watching. The wind turbines are also a visible characteristic of the region.

Best Time to Visit

June and September offer excellent weather with fewer crowds and better value. The peak season runs from mid-July through mid-August. Rusalka's unique setting in a nature reserve provides a fresh, clean environment throughout the summer, but booking well in advance is essential for peak dates.

Tips for Visitors

Since Rusalka operates primarily as an all-inclusive holiday village, be sure to confirm the specific services (like Wi-Fi, fitness room access) that are included in your package, as some amenities may have a small surcharge. Bring high SPF sunscreen (30+) for the intense sun. The secluded nature means you will need to rely on the resort's facilities or plan for longer trips to nearby towns.
