About Obzor

Obzor is a peaceful beach town located on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, approximately 65 kilometers south of Varna and 60 kilometers north of Burgas. Known in ancient times as Heliopolis ('City of the Sun'), it sits where the Stara Planina mountains meet the sea, creating dramatic landscape.

The Beach

The main attraction is Obzor's magnificent 6+ kilometer beach - one of the longest continuous sandy beaches in Bulgaria. The fine golden sand and gently sloping seabed make it perfect for families with children. The beach offers both free zones and organized sections with sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars, water sports and other amenities.

History and Culture

Archaeological excavations have revealed Thracian, Greek, Roman and Byzantine artifacts, testifying to millennia of settlement. The town's name meaning 'view' reflects its strategic position overlooking the coast. Modern Obzor successfully balances tourism development with preserving its small-town Bulgarian character.

Activities and Amenities

Beyond beach activities, visitors can explore nearby natural reserves, hike mountain trails, visit the small town museum, or take boat excursions. The town offers restaurants serving fresh seafood and Bulgarian specialties, shops, supermarkets, medical services and reliable tourist infrastructure without the overwhelming commercialization of larger resorts.

Getting There

Obzor is easily accessible by car via the coastal E87 road, or by regular bus services connecting it to Varna (north), Burgas (south), and Sofia. The nearest airports are Varna (70km) and Burgas (75km). During summer, travel agencies offer direct transfers and excursions.

When to Visit

Peak season is July-August with warmest weather and most activities but also highest prices and crowds. June and September offer excellent weather with fewer tourists and better value. The town is quieter May and October - good for peaceful walks but water may be cool. Winter months see minimal tourist activity.
